FAQs

How do I submit articles?

Once approved as an author, we will provide you with an “author account” on Amateur DIY.

From your account, you’ll be able to create new articles and submit them for review.

What is the review process like?

The articles on this site are written by weekend warriors like yourself, not home remodeling professionals.

As such, our review process is pretty relaxed. We just want to make sure that there is no offensive language or really, really bad photos in your article!

How much can I really make?

If you’re doing this to become a millionaire, stop! Authoring how-to’s is a great way to earn extra money, but it won’t allow you to quit your day job.

So the best answer to the question is…it depends. So articles on Amateur DIY bring in $5/month while others bring in $150/month. Unique articles that are centered around a product perform better than general how-to articles.

As an example, our Cutting down 30 foot high tree branches – without climbing post alone brings in about $150 per month on average from viewers purchasing the pocket chainsaw product from Amazon.

On the other hand, posts like Vinyl Lattice – Install and Forget don’t perform as well because they either describe a material (that isn’t normally purchased online) or a method/process that doesn’t involve purchasing a product. This type of post will earn revenue from pay-per-click ads, but not much.

How much do I get to keep?

You keep 100% of the earnings from clicks/orders on your links/ads. You are paid directly by Amazon, Google or the ad platform of your choice.

When do I get paid?

This entirely depends on the type of ads you place. Amazon, for example pays affiliates 60 days after the end of each month. Adsense will typically pay within 30 days of the end of the month.

Are there any other benefits to being an Amateur DIY author?

Absolutely! As an author, you can place a link to your own website within the author area of each post. We’ll also typically allow one promotional link to an external website of your choice within the body content of each article.

Does my content need to be exclusive?

Yes. We expect all articles published on Amateur DIY to be exclusive. Your article cannot be posted elsewhere. You may provide an intro to your Amateur DIY article on other sites/platforms if, and only if it links to your article on Amateur DIY.

What if I’m not getting any traffic on AmateurDIY? Can I post elsewhere?

Yes, we’re reasonable! We spend a lot of effort promoting each article that you post. So naturally, we need to ensure that article stays on our site.

That being said, if you’re not getting at least 100 page views per month to your article, after one month of being posted, we’ll allow you to remove your content from Amateur DIY and post it elsewhere.

How many ads can I place on my articles?

You can place 2 ads within your article (either affiliate links or Adsense ads). We will also place one or two affiliate links/ads of our own, in less prominent locations.
